Sleep Deprivation May Lead to Alzheimer's?

Neurologic diseases are one of the worst diseases and Alzheimer’s disease is one of them. It’s a progressive disease where there is loss of brain cells (neurons) which results in progressive memory loss. So far, there is nothing to reverse the process and our best plan of action is to try and limit the progression and prevent the disease.

This is just a start to try and understand the disease a bit better and hopefully someday to try and find a cure or a way to prevent the disease.

“The research was conducted in mice and is preliminary, and it may not apply to humans. Still, the possible link between sleep deprivation and Alzheimer’s raises the prospect of possible treatments that target related pathways in the brain, explained study author Dr. David M. Holtzman, chairman of neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

“This might be a way to delay or prevent the disease by doing something in middle life” rather than waiting until something goes wrong, Holtzman said.

The Alzheimer’s Association estimates that as many as 5.3 million people in the United States have the disease, which is the country’s seventh-leading cause of death. Alzheimer’s disease is incurable, and although some treatments are available, they only relieve symptoms. In some cases, those symptoms include sleep problems.

Holtzman and his colleagues were not initially looking at sleep, but instead wanted to better understand how a protein clogs the brains of people with Alzheimer’s. It’s not clear how these clogs, known as plaques, and structures called “tangles” cause symptoms. But experts think it may have something to do with their disruption of how neurons communicate with each other.

The researchers developed a way to monitor the levels of the protein by the hour in both humans — through a continual measurement of their spinal fluid via a catheter — and mice.

The researchers discovered that the level of the protein went up during waking hours and fell during sleep. Holtzman said that its levels may be related to brain activity, which is higher during waking hours.

In mice, the researchers found that sleep deprivation boosted the levels of the protein, which builds up in plaques.

If a person is awake for a long time, levels of the protein might build up, Holtzman said. This could play a role in middle age because Alzheimer’s disease begins to clog the brain several years before symptoms become apparent.”

For the entire article, click here. It reminds me of something I was discussing with my mother recently. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said that for every disease Allah created there is a cure. All we need is the ability to discover that cure.

“There is no disease that Allah has created, except that He also has created its treatment.”(Al-Bukhari)

The tinnitus

Many people suffer from ringing, whistles, crackling in the ears. These sounds are continually called “tinnitus” by scientists. Their persistence because they are very disabling.
What’s more unpleasant, more annoying than hearing all day long (even at night) the noise in the ears? These invaders, they leave no breathing space, which leads inexorably insomnia, fatigue, depression, or depression.

Tinnitus is very diverse in their manifestations. They may involve one or both ears, giving you the impression that they invade your cranium.
They are from diverse backgrounds. They can be caused by illness or other circumstances “external” hard to identify.
The medical causes are, for example, infections, tumors, ear infections, circulatory problems, deafness, etc..
The causes “outside”, for example, age, Wax, dental problems, trauma, stress, prolonged or repeated exposure to decibel too high, etc..
This last question in particular, is that more and more young people suffer from tinnitus. The sonos nightclubs, mp3 players, stereos in cars are a major threat for young ears. The state seems to have been some concern by asking manufacturers to curb their devices. But there is still some way to go before everything is perfect. Youth education must be priority: too few are aware of the risks!

This diversity of possible causes that it is not always easy to diagnose and find the right cure.
Many tracks are exploited in recent years.
Traditional medicine can provide solutions in specific cases when the causes are medical. In treating the disease at the origin of tinnitus, they may disappear. Sometimes a simple hearing aid can also be mitigated significantly.

When the causes are not precisely defined, can be used, sometimes successfully, to natural medicine. The hardest part is finding the cure for everyone. There are so many different tinnitus that what may work for one person may not work for another.
The homeopathy, relaxation therapy, aromatherapy, relaxation, acupuncture, hypnosis, massage, yoga, mesotherapy, osteopathy – tracks are exploited and sometimes produce good results.
Finally, a healthy and balanced diet can help reduce problems caused by tinnitus. Healthier, your body will be better able to fight them. Avoid caffeine, tobacco, decrease your intake of salt, sugar, saturated fat; privileges certain vitamins such as vitamin A (eg carrots), B3 (eg oysters), D (fish, sun), E (soybean for example), trace elements (magnesium, manganese, iodine).

Of course, it is important that you consult a specialist before choosing a particular treatment.
Do not you despair. There is certainly a therapy that matches your type of tinnitus. It is for you to find it using all possible avenues to try to rid yourself of that haunting sound, haunting spoiling your life.

    “Free” Heroin on the NHS

    by paulabowles

The links between illegal drug use and crime, particularly acquisitive, have long been recognised as problematic. Recent statistics published in The Independent suggest that as few as ten percent of addicts commit 75 percent of all acquisitive crime. In spite of these consistently dispiriting figures, the familiar approach is one of punishment, with some attempt at rehabilitation. Moreover, all of these programmes have at their foundations an aim to ensure their clients maintain complete desistance from drug use.

However, recent trials—first at the Maudsley Hospital in London, but later extended to Darlington and Brighton—suggest that the way to break the link between drugs and crime should be tackled in an entirely different way. The creation of so-called NHS “shooting galleries”, where long-term addicts can get a regular, monitored fix of heroin, would appear to be having success, not only in cutting crime, but also in reducing drug use. This week the UK National Treatment Agency for Substance Abuse is expected to call for a network of these clinics to be created across the country.

However, illegal drug (ab)use is often seen very emotively, and while this initiative may make good economic and indeed, medical sense, there will be many critics. First, the programme is not cheap (although cheaper than prison), second, the already over stretched budgets of the NHS, and finally, the moral dimension, as to whether those criminalised should be given free drugs, regardless of benefit to society. No doubt this debate will continue for some considerable time.

    In A Scratchy Situation?

Eczema is an inflammation of the skin where a known cause may not be readily apparent. It may be attributed to sensitivity, toxicity, or an allergy. Eczema is characterized by an outbreak of papules that frequently cause considerable itching.

It is recommended those with Eczema use only Renew Intensive Skin Therapy.  Avoid using the pure Melaleuca oil on the eczema sensitive skin. In addition to Renew Intensive Skin Therapy, some have found that washing with Antibacterial Liquid Soap and applying Melaleuca’s Moisturizing Hand Creme works just as well.

Some have also found that washing the area with The Gold Bar and then applying Renew Intensive Skin Therapy and/or Renew Bath Oil is very effective, even for children.

Of course, nothing stops the itching like DermaCort. It contains the maximum strength itch-stopping power of hydrocortisone to help soothe irritated skin.

If you have eczema on your scalp, try washing your hair with Naturals Melaleuca Oil Shampoo. Let the shampoo remain on your scalp during your entire shower.  After you have dried your hair with a towel, work Renew Intensive Therapy into your scalp.  The next morning, wash  your hair with Naturals Melaleuca Shampoo again. The itching and bleeding should stop within a couple of days and if you continue with this program for another week, you should eliminate your challenge. Continue to use Naturals Melaleuca Oil shampoo on a regular basis.

Work and children, which to choose? part2

After some consideration and research about this question I know what I should do.

While doing my part as a mother, I should prepare myself with knowledge and skill in order to face what might happen in future..

I know in the early stage of the children’s growing moment. It is very crucial for me, as the mother to play my role. This moment is fast passing by and after that it won’t come back. So I have to tell myself that I shouldn’t be so selfish but to sacrifice for my children’s sake. It won’t be easy but I will try my best.

It tends to cause itching, burning sensations and sitting for a longer time unbearable. Added to this is the fact that its an embarrassing problem. It causes great uneasiness making you feel worse. So, how do we get rid of Hemorrhoids? Listed below are few simple tips to help you get rid of the problem. For more info please  visit:   http://57076fsnf0dt8tddf7rldoeq32.hop.clickbank.net/

The simplest of the simple tips to get rid of Hemorrhoids is to be active. Staying at one place only worsens the situation. Secondly, you can make use of soothing herbs having astringent properties to ease the pain. They soothe the tissues and tighten them thereby making it better for you. Try to avoid constipation. Make sure you supply your body with enough fiber. If the problem is severe, then you might have to opt for a surgery and in case you are not in favor of getting a surgery done, you need to find a treatment that has been specialized for attacking the problem at its root. This is the oral method of treating Hemorrhoids.

Yoga program helps people with cancer

Yoga Thrive is a program designed to help people recover from cancer; participants are “calmer, more limber and stronger than before” says writer Hayley Mick in the Globe and Mail recently. Yoga Thrive instructors are specially trained with regard to cancer and will modify stretches to accommodate people who have had surgery, etc.

Exercise is good for people recovering from cancer, even in the early stages of treatment as long as they’re careful not to overdo it. Yoga will provide the added benefit of the mind-body connection so that people are more in tune with listening to the body if it is saying “No”. Gentle yoga exercise includes deep breathing to promote relaxation, which is a valuable tool in cancer recovery.

Hopefully the Yoga program will produce a similar effect to the dragon boat movement started in 1996 in Vancouver, BC by Dr. Don MacKenzie and a team of energetic breast cancer survivors. Abreast in a Boat (AIAB) was created to show that it’s still possible to exercise after breast cancer surgery. It has been a huge success and women all over the world find enrichment in their lives because of it. Dragon boating provides people with physical exercise, a support group, camaraderie, entertainment, travel, a purpose in life, and much more.

It’s no wonder that recurrence of cancer is reduced when people get together to exercise. Physical exercise alone reduces recurrence; add to that the interaction of people in a similar situation, and the emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual benefits increase as well. I hope the Yoga program catches on and that more people will benefit from learning to control cancer and raise their quality of life.

Cancer does not have to be a death sentence. Just ask the members of Abreast in a Boat and they will tell you their lives have been enriched following a diagnosis of cancer. If it is diagnosed early enough, cancer can be a wake up call and provide an opportunity to make the most of each day.
